How to Set Up IPTV on Smart TV

Last updated: July 2026 | 9 min read | Smart TV
Good news: Most modern Smart TVs support IPTV, but the setup process varies by brand and operating system. This guide covers Samsung (Tizen), LG (WebOS), and Android TV / Google TV.

Which Smart TVs Support IPTV?

IPTV works on any Smart TV that allows third-party app installation. Here's a quick compatibility guide:

TV BrandOSIPTV SupportEase
Sony, Philips, TCL, HisenseAndroid TV / Google TVExcellentEasy
Samsung (2017+)TizenLimitedModerate
LG (2018+)WebOSLimitedModerate
PanasonicMy Home ScreenLimitedHard

Android TV / Google TV (Sony, Philips, TCL, Hisense, Nvidia Shield)

This is the easiest platform for IPTV. Android TV has access to the Google Play Store, where you can install IPTV players directly:

  1. Press the Home button on your remote
  2. Go to the Google Play Store
  3. Search for "TiviMate" or "IPTV Smarters Pro"
  4. Select Install
  5. Open the app and enter your subscription details (M3U URL or Xtream Codes)

That's it. Android TV users have the same selection of IPTV players as Firestick users. See our player comparison guide for recommendations.

Samsung Smart TV (Tizen OS)

Samsung's Tizen OS has a more restricted app ecosystem, but IPTV is still possible:

  1. Press the Home button and go to the Samsung Smart Hub
  2. Search for "IPTV" in the App Store
  3. Look for apps like "Smart IPTV", "IPTV Smarters", or "SS IPTV"
  4. Install the app and note the MAC address or device code shown
  5. Go to the app's website on your phone/PC to upload your M3U playlist
  6. Refresh the app on your TV to load your channels

Note: Many Samsung IPTV apps require a one-time activation fee (usually around €5-10). This is normal and not a scam.

LG Smart TV (WebOS)

LG's WebOS also supports IPTV through its Content Store:

  1. Press the Home button and go to the LG Content Store
  2. Search for "IPTV"
  3. Install "Smart IPTV" or "SS IPTV" (both work well)
  4. Open the app and note the Unique ID / Device ID displayed
  5. Upload your M3U playlist via the app's website on your computer
  6. Restart the app to load your channels

Like Samsung, LG apps may have a small activation fee. This is a one-time charge, not a subscription.

Alternative: Use an External Streaming Device

If your Smart TV doesn't support IPTV well, the best solution is to use an external streaming device like:

These devices plug into your TV's HDMI port and give you full access to all IPTV apps. See our Firestick setup guide for details.

Connecting Your IPTV Subscription

Regardless of which Smart TV platform you use, you'll need your subscription details handy:

Enter these in your IPTV player app and your channels will load automatically.

Common Smart TV IPTV Issues

App not available in my region

Some IPTV apps are region-locked in Smart TV app stores. You can work around this by changing your TV's region in settings, or by sideloading the app via USB.

Channels load but won't play

This is usually a codec issue. Your TV may not support the video format the stream uses. Try a different player app or use an external streaming device.

Remote control doesn't work well with the app

Most IPTV players are designed for standard remote controls. If you have issues, try using your phone as a remote via the SmartThings app (Samsung) or LG ThinQ app (LG).
